As promised a few months ago... These are some of 'The Guys' who shared this over seas trip with me in no particular order...
The Laddies Man
Andrew spent a decent amount of his WYD trip looking out for cute, hot or attractive girls. If ever he was lost you simply had to think of where the girls would be and BAM! you could find him no worries. Funnily enough before the trip, both of our families had predicted we'd hook up overseas, a few friends agreed as well! We didn't think it would happen at all and... it DIDN'T! However we did share a room a few nights, not alone though... always with our room mates and only as friends ourselves. Andrew has a tendency to lick people on the face when he's drunk and sometimes when he's not. But he is a man of friendship, you could really trust him to be there if you ever needed him.
The Dad
Brad was our group leader and soon enough became our overseas father, keeping us in order- giving Andrew and I a good talking to after our sleepover in Rome. A principal in high-schools so he kept to the rules even though as a teen he used to break them often, or so it was told. He was always willing to share in with the laughs and add a witty comment to lighten the mood. Truly and genuine Aussie bloke always there for his adopted children.
The Giggle Guts
Jack laughed his butt off for most of the trip, well when his nose wasn't bleeding. We had a fake temporary relationship for part of the trip, one big joke really but it was a great source of entertainment. One particular train ride was torturous for him however hilarious for the rest of us. Jack desperately needed to go to the toilet so instead of leaving him to his own thoughts I continued to crack jokes, corner him or just stand in his personal space. A very loyal and dedicated individual with a great focus on Christ ... if fact he's entering the seminary this coming year.
Many a great debate, conversation and discussion was conducted by Luke, our Catholic teen, up to date on all the latest new issues, teachings of the church and just all round opinions. A very spiritual person with his heart always in the right spot and following Catholic values, this guy doesn't care what other think about him but instead thinks about the moral issues in society, never devaluing a woman in anyway and always sticking up for what it right. He was also great for a game of cards, a chat or some uno.
The Giant
Jonathan is insanely tall, every time I see him I forget how tall he really is. He also smiles a whole bunch, Jon was always there to say what everyone was thinking but didn't say out of politeness, or to ask the simple questions. Wonderful for a laugh, there to provide games and encouragement. He was sick for a part of the trip, suffering from dehydration but he quickly recovered and restored his position amongst us. Is the first one to make plans and help out whenever he's free, spreading the smiles.
The Young Spanish Priest
We met Padre Raul on the first night of our home stay, at this point he spoke not a word of English, but within a week he had learnt so much. He taught us how to speak a little spanish and how to pray the 'our father'. We taught him how to say 'I love you' and give people wet willy's when they were sleeping. Padre thought that everyone was with someone (as in everyone was dating) none of us were though (cept for Shelby and Sherwin) so he proceeded to pair us all up. Many of our fond memories come from him and our hilarious bus rides, stories and 'complications'.
The Ultimate Cool Guy
He's the guy every girl wants to be with and the one every guy wishes to be. Tall, dark, handsome, funny, sporty, a family guy and friends with EVERYONE!! His name is Philippe and I had it bad for him instantly even before we left Sydney but what I didn't know was that we'd actually see each other on this trip and boy did we see each other. We got to know each other pretty well over the trip but unfortunately we figured it wouldn't work out in the end. Phil also provided us with heaps of trivial knowledge, constant laughs, jokes and stories and absolutely amazing smile okay so i'm biased but he's a really nice guy who also aspires to become a priest.
The Little Brother
Tom was the youngest guy on our trip, the younger sibling of Jack... he was pretty quiet, I think he was just listening to all of us for most of the trip and sussing out his thoughts. unfortunately he was sick for a large amount of the trip but that didn't stop him for punching out witty comments and stating facts. He was great to push around... just kidding, he was our little brother... to all of us.
The Joker
Fr Suresh provided a lot of the other jokes and the somewhat annoying chant 'I wanna zoom zoom zoom into the room room room, I want to zoom into the room and praise the Lord' =D which eventually grew on us anyhow. He also gave us the spiritual knowledge we needed on our journey and an absolutely awesome talk on relationships in Assisi. He'll always be there for the youth of Parramatta and he truly is hilarious.
Michael was not seen anywhere other than @ Zara when we were overseas... only kidding we saw him other places too.. like meal times and Gelato stops but mostly just at the shops! For someone who is going to become a Priest you'd think he wouldn't like clothes so much, oh well.
The Love Bird (2)
Sherwin makes up one half of the only couple that was with us on the trip (also both Indian). Another sweet guy that contributed to both discussions and game time, the sort of guy who's looking out for all of us but at the same time prioritising his girlfriends needs first. Assisi was a fun time for him, he got sneezed on by a sheep, pushed into a pool and got lost in the city.
Romel was our nice guy, the sincere, genuine, friendly, sweet, sensitive guy too bad he's already taken ladies. Romel later renamed Lemor (his name backwards to sound more French) was our Jacinta and I's favourite person to hang with. Even though he's quiet, he's the go to guy with anything you need to talk out and he'd always be there if you needed him.
The Holy Guy
Stefan, currently a seminarian managed to participate in every mass ceremony overseas, usually right at the front of the line up too. Sporting a very thick Australian accent, this guy grew up in the bush and isn't afraid to pick fun at you or participate in a practical joke as long as no one really gets hurt. He could sleep through anything, which didn't help when we were supposed up and ready by 8 one morning, we were sooo late.
The Tour Guide
Marco was our insanely awesome tour guide who could speak a few languages including English, Spanish and Italian. Highly entertaining, informative, a little bit of a joker and a generally a funny guy who stuck up for our rights whenever we went. He took us to all the best spots, gave us all the best deals and even kept in contact with us since WYD.
Hope you're all doing well, i'll be sure to post about the girls very soon :)
xx Dani
